GHD’s guide to COP29, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, in Azerbaijan

The United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP) is a series of formal meetings that brings together global leaders from almost 200 countries to measure progress and negotiate the best ways to address climate change. In addition to facilitating country level negotiations, delegates from across the public, private and NGO sectors come together to collaborate and discuss solutions on how to positively move the world forward. Climate change leaders, scientists, experts and influencers come together to share their stories and solutions at panel discussions, exhibits, cultural events and hundreds of side events.

COPs are critical in the effort against climate change. The annual event offers an opportunity to raise the level of attention to the impacts of climate change, reflecting the absolute need for multi-sector stakeholder collaboration. The awareness of the impacts of climate change and the need for action has led to an exponential increase in the demand for participation from a wide spectrum of stakeholders. Having grown steadily over the two decades, the conferences are attended by tens of thousands of delegates from all over the world. The goal of this year’s COP is to deliver deep, rapid and sustained emission reductions through enhanced ambition and enabled action.
