GHD brings global technical leaders to Miami to explore infrastructure for a changing world
GHD is bringing technical leaders from around the world to Miami for a Technical Conference to explore how cities can adapt and better connect infrastructure as demands change.
Taking place Oct. 22-24, GHD Transforms: Integrated Infrastructure for a Changing World will focus on a challenge facing cities globally: How to adapt infrastructure designed for different populations, technologies and operating conditions to the needs of communities today.
The conference will examine how stronger connections across infrastructure systems and organizations can help cities respond to population growth and climate resilience while adapting to changing technology.
Presentations will draw on projects and ideas from across GHD’s global business, including new approaches to infrastructure supporting AI and digital growth. Other discussions will consider the changing role of ports as connected economic ecosystems and collaboration across water systems.
Rachel McCaffery, GHD’s Regional General Manager, said Miami provided a fitting setting for the global discussion.
“Miami brings many of the infrastructure challenges facing growing cities into sharp focus. Population growth and climate resilience are changing demands on our transport, water, energy and built systems, and these systems can’t be considered in isolation," Rachel said.
“Bringing our people together here gives us an opportunity to look across those boundaries and share ideas that can help our clients respond to similar challenges around the world.”
The conference comes as GHD continues to strengthen its presence in South Florida, building on the addition of ADA Engineering and recent initiatives such as My City in 2050: Metro Miami, a campaign examining the future of one of the country's fastest-growing urban regions.
Albert Argudin, Florida Market Leader, said Miami’s growth made the city an important place for conversations about the future of infrastructure.
“Miami is growing and changing, creating new demands for the infrastructure that supports the city and surrounding communities. Bringing GHD’s technical leaders here is an opportunity to connect ideas and experience from around the world with the challenges we see locally," Albert said.
“For us, the value is in bringing that global thinking into a local context and finding approaches that can respond to the needs of communities across Florida.”
Jill Hannaford, Executive General Manager, Technical Services, said the conference was designed to accelerate the exchange of technical knowledge across GHD’s global network.
“Our Technical Conferences bring together different disciplines and perspectives so we can learn from the challenges our clients are facing around the world. They give us an opportunity to share technical expertise and solutions, and explore how these can be applied in other contexts. That exchange is where the real value lies. An insight or solution from one part of the world can unlock new thinking somewhere else,” Jill said.
The conference will give GHD’s technical leaders an opportunity to challenge current thinking and share what is working across its global network, with the aim of applying relevant ideas and lessons beyond Miami.
