Carbon dioxide capture harnesses CO2 emissions from industrial processes and power plants before they are released into the atmosphere. This is a crucial strategy in mitigating the rise of greenhouse gases, as CO2 accounts for the largest portion of human-caused emissions.
Apart from the obvious effect on helping fight climate change by reducing the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere, it supports the transition to a low-carbon economy by allowing industries to reduce their carbon footprint while continuing to operate. Also, CO2 capture ensures energy security during the shift to renewable energy sources and enables sustainable industrial processes. Lastly, it can play a critical role in achieving net negative emissions and helping protect ecosystems and communities by minimising air pollution and its harmful effects.
