Imagining the future of the transport sector is as much about data modelling, software and security solutions as it is about road treatments and rail, according to a global technical conference hosted by GHD recently in Auckland, New Zealand.
Anticipating disruption in the transportation sector was top of mind for the 115 technical leaders from across GHD’s global network, including Aviation, Railway, Road Systems, Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineering, Tunnels, Advisory and Digital teams.
Focused on “Innovative transportation in a technology driven world,” the conference attendees collectively addressed key areas such as digital transformation, the role of autonomous vehicles and the impact of increased infrastructure investment regionally.
The two-day technical conference discussed disruptive forces in the transportation sector; what this looks like globally and how best to activate new technologies to continue to drive innovation for our clients.
Much of the shared learnings was around the benefits that technology and digitisation bring to our clients, especially in relation to how we visualise, identify and manage multi-modal risk. It was also agreed that to support large transportation projects, we need strategically focused investments and improved funding models that draw on community, government and private partnerships.
Our technical leaders shared in-depth knowledge of their specialist areas, as well as running a number of interactive workshops, bringing global teams together to collaborate on the future of transportation. A key highlight for our people was the opportunity to make new connections with colleagues across the world, sharing ideas and building strong relationships that allow us to work as a connected global network.
This unique technical conference model provides GHD people with the opportunity to share knowledge and get a better understanding of the deep technical capability that exists across the GHD business. With a diverse group of people joining the event from all corners of the globe, including Santiago, London, Manila, Wellington and Perth, each person brought a unique perspective and set of skills to share with the broader global team.
