Oceanside’s Artificial Reef is Focused on Sand, but Might Still Create Waves

Surfline reports that GHD is technical partner on Oceanside’s proposed artificial reef, working with International Coastal Management to design and model a sand-retention solution to chronic erosion south of the pier. The hybrid project — combining an offshore reef, headlands and sand nourishment — is explicitly focused on keeping sand on the beach by reducing wave energy at the shoreline, rather than creating a surf break. However, GHD coastal scientists also hope to improve surf conditions.
